Thank You To Those That Gave Their All...

"The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him."   - G. K. Chesterton

It is the
VETERAN,
 not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
 not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is
the VETERAN,
 not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is
the VETERAN,
 not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is
the VETERAN,
 not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

'A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check
Made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'up to
and including my life'.

There are truly not enough words to express my gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice.
This is just a little poem I wrote dedicated to the heroes that have died for our freedom.

Memorial Day

Our fallen heroes, laid beneath the sand
Gave their lives for this great land.
A day off of school, a barbecue planned
Off to the beach, a towel on the sand.

Shipped off to countries, far and wide
Their friends, their brothers killed by their side
Hot dogs and hamburgers, grilled to perfection
Swimming, playing and plenty of relaxation.

Went off to fight to keep us free
their names on a cross, their legacy.
Swimming in the ocean, jumping waves
So easily forgetting the sacrifices made.

Leaving home boys, returning home as men,
Innocence lost, never the same again.
Take some time to remember those we've lost
To secure our freedom, their life, the cost.
